"ACTT was the perfect place for me to express myself freely... friendly and professional, nurturing as well as challenging." Luke Joslin 2010 Greenroom Award-winner.
Option 1: Part-time over 11 months
This video was made by some part-time CORE students in the 1st stage of training: 'Instrument Work' If you have work, family or study commitments then part-time is for you. Popular with people of all ages and backgrounds, The CORE Part-Time is a place for you to escape, as you explore your creativity with other, highly-motivated people. This part-time option caters to people who are working or studying full-time but can make themselves available during 2 evenings each week and occasional weekends throughout the year. Many part-time CORE students are building on previous acting, public speaking or performing experience but others just bring enthusiasm and a desire to learn.Option 2: Full-time over 5 months
If you are seriously about to embark in a performing arts career there is no better place to start than The CORE Full-Time. Fully accredited and suitable for AusStudy, this is a great option for anyone leaving school and it’s also open to talented international students. This intensive, full-time option caters for people who might already have taken some beginners classes, studied drama at school, practiced their skills in amateur dramatics groups or just ‘feel’ that acting is for them. The course gets a great mix of people who are changing their careers, school-leavers and students taking a ‘gap year’ as well as a few international students. This diversity brings a unique quality and energy to the course and it’s a great way to really get stuck into performing arts to see if it’s something you want to build on.What is The CORE?
The CORE is a highly sought-after Certificate III in Theatre & Screen Performance, delivered part-time or full-time (see details below) delivered at ACTT, opposite Central Station in Sydney. It uses the actor training methodology of Eric Morris within the overall training framework and develops skills across a broad range of performance and technical areas for an all-round experience. If you choose to take this course you will experience being taught 15 different modules by some of Australia’s most dedicated and qualified industry professionals as you enjoy learning about stage acting, screen acting (TV & film), voice and movement (Meyerhold and LeCoq techniques) along with a small amount of ensemble singing and dance (to help release your creativity). As you go through the modules you will learn new and exciting performance skills and build confidence.
Did you know?
Because The CORE builds confidence, communications and presentation skills, if you are employed (or self-employed) you might be able to claim it as a work-related, self-education expense... Even if you’re not eligible, you could ask your employer to be a co-contributor towards your fees, or you could pay by small installments using Ezypay every week, fortnight, month or quarter, depending on your income payments. Try the ATO online self-education eligibility tool or ask your accountant about your tax eligibility or talk to us about payment by installments.
The audition process:
Fear of auditions is very common and we know they can seem daunting for many people, so we have made auditioning for the CORE a positive and rewarding experience (no preparation necessary!). The audition is a workshop format at one of our regular acting workshops. You will be observed as you participate in a range of acting exercises that includes improvisation, theatre games and simple script work. These workshops create a similar environment to acting classes and provide insights into your suitability for the course. The aim of the workshop is to ensure that The CORE is the right match for each individual student. So download the application form from the left hand panel on this page and then click on the link below to enrol in the next workshop.
