TWO, THREE OR FOUR YEAR ACTOR TRAINING
Diploma of Performance Practice – two years
Advanced Diploma of Arts in Stage and Screen Acting – third year
Bachelor of Arts in Stage and Screen Acting (UNE) – one year

The three year vocational course is an advanced studio-based training program designed for talented students who wish to pursue a career as professional actors in fi lm, television and theatre. The training is exceptional in its content and delivery and is unique to ACTT. The fourth year is an optional academic course undertaken in conjunction with University of New England (UNE) and only available to ACTT graduate actors.

THE ACTT SYSTEM
ACTT is the only school in Australia that exclusively trains actors in two of the world’s leading acting methods: Morris and Meyerhold. These craft oriented disciplines combine to form the 'ACTT System’. The System gives the actor a set of physical, psychological and emotional tools to achieve the highest standards on the film set, in the rehearsal room and on-stage; thus enabling the actor with a personal and repeatable process. This supports an actor’s creative choices under any set of circumstances, to create a ‘being’ state that provides the freshness and versatility demanded by every performance on stage and particularly film and television.

FIRST YEAR
The first year introduces the world of actor training and the focus is on developing the actor’s ‘instrument’. There is extensive work on voice and movement with modules including Acting (Morris), Feldenkrais, Movement (Meyerhold and Expressive Body), Production and Stagecraft, Acting for Screen, Singing, Theatre and Screen Studies and Voice. Unique to ACTT the Actor as Artist module in first year is a revolutionary approach to unlocking each actor’s individual creative voice through artistic expression. Students also get the opportunity to explore the training through participation in a ‘Discovery Play’ and performances in mid year and at the end of the year.

SECOND YEAR
The second year grounds the actor’s talent in ‘craft’ and is designed around a substantial production program. The continuing training modules support the specific productions that include classic and contemporary stage plays, a cabaret and a unique devised work called ‘Turning Points’ which is the pinnacle of the ‘ACTT System’. The skills acquired in first year allow the actor to delve deeper into their craft and the five productions are supported by Acting Instrument, Acting for Screen, Comedy, Dance, Movement, Singing, Stage Combat, Theatre and Screen Studies and Voice modules.

Any student successfully completing two years only may be awarded the Diploma of Performance Practice.

THIRD YEAR
The third year of the course allows the actor to strengthen and distill their individual processes through the building of professional practice. The actors continue to work with ‘The System’ and develop into emotionally accessible, imaginative, fully expressive, confident, well-informed actors.

Production work includes two television and film screen projects that create the most highly praised showreel in Australia. The two major stage productions are produced at Cleveland St Theatre for the general public and industry guests. The acting, voice, movement training modulessupport the production projects and others include Auditioning for Stage and Screen, Working in the Industry and Guest Master Classes. The actors are expected to be independently motivated to use the course to practice their chosen discipline in a professional manner, continuously striving to maximize their achievements with the support of ACTT and their tutors and directors. The course culminates in an Industry Showcase Day also at Cleveland St Theatre.

The third year actors are supported and encouraged to develop strong networks with fellow students, tutors and industry visitors within ACTT to enable them to enter the industry with a strong process that allows them to cultivate and maintain a successful career.

‘Doing the course at UNE really enriched my knowledge
base and furthered my understanding of acting and the
arts in general. Aside from the value of gaining a degree,
I developed a new insight into the acting process by
approaching it from an academic perspective, which added
to the very ‘hands on’ approach offered by ACTT.’

Ella Darveniza ACTT Acting Graduate,1999; UNE Bachelor of Arts, 2007
