30 September 2010 Imagine News
The Imagine Festival is excited to announce a partnership with Fbi 94.5! Festival director Lex Marinos says “FBi is OUR radio station- accessible, edgy and supportive of our creative community. We are delighted to join forces with their team”. “A partnership makes sense - both partners are interested in innovation and creativity and both are committed to supporting the growth of emerging local artists. The Imagine Festival is all about accessibility - this year it is an entirely FREE event open to all, and a fantastic community event” says Marinos FBi DJs and personalities will MC for some of the events at the Festival and listeners will be treated to a number of promotional offers including free double-passes to ACTT shows and Imagine Festival merchandise.

The Imagine Festival, an associated event of the City of Sydney’s Art and About program is an entirely FREE event celebrating the diversity of performance featuring music, burlesque, dance, play-reading, performance poetry, DVD art installations, comedy and everything in between in one exciting venue – ACTT’s Cleveland St Theatre.

Imagine Festival Director Lex Marinos says the festival is a unique and exciting opportunity for established and emerging artists alike to present their work in a receptive, non-competitive environment. "As well as being 3 days of free and exciting entertainment, the Imagine Festival opens up the channels for a creative and lively discourse between the audience and artists. Last year’s festival planted the seedlings for many new creative collaborations and new projects,” says Marinos.

“The Imagine Festival is a supportive environment for artists to meet, gather and forge new working partnerships. It’s also important to have a good time while they do it.” says Lex Marinos.

This year’s program kicks off on Friday 8th October with a tasty sample of the weekend to come and music from Vote for Mary. Saturday includes play-readings, ‘Best of Playtime’, performance art and an evening of drama, Cabaret and a festival highlight – a contemporary, experimental Opera piece The Pomegranate Cycle. On Sunday morning kicks off with a burlesque workshop, and the afternoon offers dance, song and film. The festival wraps up with a lively discussion: 'Where to now?- who’s job is it to do R & D?' followed by poetry, jazz and the Mean Feet Brass Band on Sunday night.

All the fun and festivities will be contained in the Cleveland St Theatre, the venue run by the Actors College of Theatre and Television. “The Cleveland St Theatre premises is the perfect venue for a festival like the Imagine – as the former Performance Space it has historically been at the forefront for presenting innovative new works in all artistic areas and we are proud to continue this tradition with The Imagine Festival” says Lex Marinos.

With Cleveland Street Theatre complex’s amazing versatile Theatre (ranges from 100-145 seats in several formations and includes great floorspace and aerial rigging) and a huge range of 9 studios (from the Pitt St campus to Cleveland, includes an edit suite, and mirrors and pianos in some rooms) this is a great, central space for new, emerging and established artists in dance, performance art, theatre, music, film, visual arts and photography.

In 2009 The Imagine Festival provided a way of bringing lots of disciplines together in the one space and create a nuturing environment for a diversity of artists, from new to established. It also helped us get the word out about our fantastic space!

In 2010 the Cleveland Street Theatre will host seven shows as part of the Sydney Fringe in September and we look forward to an incarnation of the Imagine Festival in October.

YOKO ONO SENDS ‘IMAGINE’ A MESSAGE – JUST IMAGINE!

Friday 9th October 2009: When Lesley Watson, Festival Director and Rebecca Clarke, ACTT’s Imagine Festival Coordinator realised that the Festival start coincides with John Lennon’s birthday, Rebecca contacted Yoko Ono.

The following message was received via Amanda Keeley, Personal Assistant to Yoko Ono, on October 9 2009:

IMAGINE PEACE

“Imagine all the people living in peace” - as John said.

Remember, each one of us has the power to change the world.
Power works in mysterious ways.
You don’t have to do much.
Visualise the domino effect
And just start thinking PEACE.
The message will circulate faster than you think.

It’s Time For Action.
The Action is PEACE.
Spread the word.
Spread PEACE.

I love you!
