08_Cleveland Street2 The IMAGINE Festival is on again, from Friday 8th – Sunday 10th October at the Cleveland Street Theatre (Opposite Prince Alfred Park) as part of the City of Sydney’s ‘Art & About’ season. The Festival is a FREE event celebrating the diversity of performance featuring music, burlesque, dance, play-reading, performance poetry, DVD art installations, comedy, discussion, visual arts, free acting workshops and lots more, all in one space – Cleveland St Theatre – over three fun-packed days.

Highlights of This Year’s Program

This year’s program kicks off on Friday 8th October with a tasty sample of the weekend to come with a burlesque treat from Miss Audrey L’Espionne and a party atmosphere with live music courtesy of Vote for Mary, and DJ Brendan Watson and friends of Kinderspiel.

Saturday features short plays and play-readings from new and established writers including the hugely successful ‘Best of Playtime’ from the Actor’s Anonymous team, performance art and an evening of drama, some sweet tunes from Jess McAlister, Cabaret and a festival highlight – a contemporary, experimental Opera The Pomegranate Cycle direct from a successful season in Brisbane.

Sunday kicks off with a burlesque workshop and the Poet’s breakfast, while the afternoon offers dance (featuring Kay Armstrong) and youMove Dance Theatre, experimental short films, and songs from Ecopella. Lex Marinos hosts an interactive Industry Forum at 3.30 where a number of “people-in-the-know” will discuss: 'Where to now? -who's job is it to do R & D?' The festival wraps up on Sunday evening with poetry & jazz from Laureate Productions and more good tunes from the Mean Feet Brass Band.

Imagine Festival Director Lex Marinos says the festival is a unique and exciting opportunity for established and emerging artists alike to present their work in a receptive, non-competitive environment.

“As well as being 3 days of free and exciting entertainment, the Imagine Festival opens up the channels for a creative and lively discourse between the audience and artists. Last year’s festival planted the seedlings for many new creative collaborations and new projects.” says Marinos.
