History

The Actors College of Theatre and Television (ACTT) was established in 1992 in the newly restored St Laurence Arts Centre in Sydney. The current Director, Lesley Watson, founded the college and drew together a team of professional practitioners to develop the first accredited acting diploma course. Since then a suite of full-time and part-time courses have been created to meet the industry’s demand for exceptionally well-trained, versatile artists for theatre, film, television and music theatre. The ACTT team is dedicated to the exploration and enhancement of the most successful approaches to actor training in the world. As a result The ACTT System is now integrated into all aspects of ACTT's acting courses. Recognition of the success of The System is building as ACTT’s reputation for graduates who deliver impacting performances on both stage and screen has been widely endorsed by agents, directors and producers in Australia and internationally.

In late 2006, ACTT took over the running of the theatre and studios at Cleveland St that had been home to Performance Space for almost thirty years. Located very close to ACTT's main campus, this additional site has given ACTT the scope to finally fulfill one of its long term goals: to combine experiences of professional artists, students, graduates and the performing arts sector as a whole, blending the transition of students into professionals. 06_2_Turning Points_Duffield Each year, ACTT accepts a limited number of talented students from many countries around the world in each of the full time courses providing an international flavour to study at ACTT and growing international connections. As well as the accredited, full-time courses in acting, musical theatre and technical production, ACTT also conducts an extensive range of accredited and recreational part-time and short courses at both introductory and advanced levels. ACTT's one-year long part-time acting course for teenagers, ACTIVATE is recognised as excellent actor training both to prepare for further tertiary training and to support school drama study. In 2009, ACTIVATE has been re-launched as a Youth Theatre program, combining the very best of ACTIVATE training with exciting stage productions at Cleveland St Theatre.

Since 1994, ACTT has also provided expertise and support to businesses and government organisations in the area of professional and staff development workshops, conferences, special events, customised training programs and by providing skilled role-players to enhance training and recruitment programs.
