Alumni
ACTT alumni are widely dispersed across the Australian and global performing arts industry. Our graduates and ex-students have taken up some high-profile Theatre, Television and Film roles, and won Australian and International awards. We thought you might like to meet some of them:
Firass Dirani
Firass is best known for his role of John Ibrahim in the hit Australian TV series ‘Underbelly: The Golden Mile’. Prior to that he played Nick Russell, the Red Mystic Ranger, in ‘Power Rangers’ and Charlie in the 2009 Australian film ‘The Combination’. Firass is a graduate of ACTT’s Professional Actor Program and in April 2010 he was named Cleo Bachelor of the Year. In May 2011 Firass won two LOGIE Awards: The Graham Kennedy Award for Outstanding New Talent and the Most Popular New Talent for Underbelly: The Golden Mile. He has also appearred in “The Killer Elite” alongside Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Jason Stratham.
Luke Joslin
Helpmann Award winner, Luke Joslin graduated from Actors College of Theatre and Television with The CORE. His most recent credits include Annie for the Gordon Frost Organisation, Threepenny Opera for Sydney Theatre Company/ Malthouse and the national tour of Doctor Zhivago for GFO. For his role as Trekkie/ Nicky in Avenue Q, Luke was awarded both a Greenroom Award and a Helpmann Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical. Previous performance credits include Assassins, Dirty Dancing- The Classic Story On Stage and Titanic The Musical. His directorial credits include Christmas Eve and Other Stories, Beaconsfield the Musical and Back To The 80’s- The Totally Awesome Musical.
George Houvardas
George Houvardas is a graduate of The CORE Certificate III in Theatre and Screen Performance, and is best known for his role as Nick ‘Carbo’ Karandonis in the television series Packed to the Rafters. This is his first acting role and was his first audition. He has also played a guest role in the second season of East West 101. George appeared on Season 10 of the Seven Network reality show Dancing with the Stars in 2010.
Leeanna Walsman
Leeanna Walsman is best known for her role as Zam Wesell in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) and for playing Carly Bishop in the Australian film Looking For Alibrandi (2000). Since a breakthrough performance in La Dispute (May 2000) her numerous theatre credits include Othello for the Bell Shakespeare Company (2007). Leeanna has also appeared in many Soaps, TV Series' and feature films roles including The Pacific (2010), Hercules, All Saints, Beastmaster, Farscape, Heartbreak High and Police Rescue.
Socratis Otto
Socratis is an ex-student of ACTT, he studied at the college and was awarded a Certificate III (the course structure has since changed). Socratis has an impressive list of credits to his name including Wolverine, The Matrix Re-loaded, and The Rage in Lake Placid starring Miranda Richardson. Recently he has finished filming Australian feature Beautiful and he has finished Anyone You Want and played Charles Darwin in the ABC’s mini-series Darwin’s Brave New World.
Matthew Holmes
Matt gained an Advanced Diploma in Acting at the Actors College of Theatre and Television. He is one of the main characters in Sea Patrol’s 2007 – 2010 seasons. His character is Petty Officer Chris Blake, the Coxswain of a fictional Royal Australian Navy Patrol Boat. He appeared as Constable Matthew “Matt” Graham in Blue Heelers. Matt has also appeared in TV ads including seek.com.au, the Victoria and Queensland Government’s Drink-Driving campaign and the ‘Working Like a Machine?’ Kit Kat ad.
Kate Walder
After completing the Certificate IV in Music Theatre at ACTT (2005), Kate went on to the BA Music Theatre course from WAAPA. In 2009 she played Clio in La Dispute at the Soho Theatre in London and subsequently at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Since returning to Sydney, Kate has written and performed her one-woman show ‘Coffee with Kate: the Cabaret’ in the inaugural Sydney Fringe Festival. The show is based on a series of weekly columns she wrote for Aussietheatre.com in 2009, following her first year in the industry and her trials and tribulations overseas. She plans to tour the show to Melbourne in early 2011.
Valentino Del Toro
CORE Grad Valentino Del Toro (pictured) recently starred in the hit ‘Underbelly Files: Infiltration’ on Channel 9. Valentino’s feature credits include Fool’s Gold and Gabriel, while his TV credits include The Strip, All Saints, Sea Patrol and Two Twisted. Valentino has worked alongside some highly acclaimed directors and his directorial debut with his film “Love Always xx” was highly acclaimed. Although primarily an actor, he also produces and directs his own films.
Celia Kelly
Celia Kelly is appearing in “Nuns” at Newtown Theatre and “Pride and Prejudice in 10 minutes” at NIDA’s Parade Playhouse in February as part of Short+Sweet.Perhaps the most popular winner was the People’s Choice (audience vote) winner Pride and Prejudice in 10 Minutes Flat which also featured festival Best New Talent award-winner, actress Celia Kelly as Lizzie Bennett. Celia won the Best New Talent award.
Jared Houseman
Jared won the award for Excellence In Performance at the New York Fringe Festival 2010 and has been living and training/working there since 2007. He is currently starting work on his 13th show since moving to the US. He also wrote/produced/directed and acted in a film, back in Oz, that won ‘Best Foreign Film’ at the Kentucky Independent Film Festival back in 2006. Jared’s theatre credits include; The Woman, Uncle Vanya, The Tamer Tamed, Alphabet City VI, A Mysterious Way and Emily (NY); Scarecrow, The Great Pretenders, Halal El Mashakel (Adelaide Fringe Festival), and Unpeople (Australia).
Chloe Schwank
A graduate of Actors College of Theatre & Television Advanced Diploma, Screen and Stage Acting in 2007, Chloe’s recent screen acting includes the lead role Clara in Semblance, a Russian assassin in Boss Assassins (AFTRS short film) and a doctor in an episode of the TV drama Out of the Blue. Recent stage acting includes Hell Hath Three Furies in A Taste Sensation (Dinner with a View), Cosi (New Theatre), Fire Safety (Brand Spanking New, New Theatre), The Empire of Soap (Short & Sweet One Act Play Festival), Call Me Comrade (Short & Sweet Festival Gala).
